Jack Sturman

Hometown: Portland, OR

Major: Undecided

Position: Hiking

Three things I love to do: Anything related to the Haas Center for Public Service, deep conversations while playing board games, and collaborating with teammates on "beta" at climbing team practice.

I could talk all day about: how decisions are made and what motivates people, the interplay between society and technology, backpacking the Pacific Crest Trail, and my crazy chocolate labrador retriever.

I would love to connect with guests about: Engineering, public service/non-profits, and education.

Biosketch: Raised in the Pacific Northwest, it’s no surprise that Jack loves to spend time outdoors. From the epic views earned by scaling a rock face to the opportunity to get lost in the meditative cadence of backpacking 450+ miles on the Pacific Crest trail, Jack is addicted to nature’s beauty, physical challenge, and the distraction-free atmosphere that fosters authentic connection. When not outside, Jack can be found at his second home, Stanford’s Haas Center for Public Service, learning skills to mobilize communities for social change or collaborating with local organizations on projects related to his interests in engineering, the environment, and education. Inside the classroom, Jack is fascinated with social behavior, especially decision-making, idea propagation, group dynamics, and the interplay between society and technology. He is excited to explore Desolation Wilderness and to learn more about you!
