Mara Hankins

Hometown: Newbury Park, CA

Major: Earth Systems and Communication

Position: Ski Dock

Three things I love to do: Hang out at the climbing wall, weekend adventures with friends, write for The Daily!

I could talk all day about: Climbing, skiing, backcountry skiing, hiking/backpacking, books, the show Survivor, the movie Past Lives, building sustainable societies, environmental justice, journalism and democracy!, climate history, wilderness medicine

I would love to connect with guests about: Journalism, sustainability, ecology, climate, environmental law, environmental journalism

Biosketch: Mara is beyond excited to be part of the ski dock team for summer '26, and can't wait to swap book recommendations and adventure stories with guests! She spent summer '25 climbing throughout the Mammoth Lakes and Yosemite area while working at a local Sierra coffee shop. After trying all sorts of classes in her first year at Stanford, Mara will likely double major in Earth Systems and Communication. She hopes to someday be a climate-environmental journalist or an investigative reporter—writing for The Stanford Daily has been a highlight of the past year! In addition to skiing with ski club, climbing with the climbing team, and taking numerous creative writing classes. Mara learned how to ski at SSC, loves wakeboarding above all, and can't wait to take part in the magic now. She is SO excited for camp this year and counts herself lucky to be in such a beautiful place!
